JUNE 30th!!

Oh my, the day is here.  30 days of posting in a row.

Today was busy - lots of errands.  My foot felt ok when I woke up, then it got way worse, and now it is way better.  It is still a little uncomfortable, but I think I'll pull through.

I am starting to wonder about my 2nd job that I do on Wednesday.  (Going to help organize Penny's life, for those of you who don't know).  It is starting to be more of a chore than something I enjoy doing.  I used to think that organizing someone's life would be a great full-time job, but...maybe not.  Or maybe it is just this particular "life" I am not liking anymore.  Unfortunately I have made myself indispensable to her and I am confident that she would fall apart without me.  That's not me bragging, it is actually a bad thing - she might just curl up in a ball and die if I left.  So I don't know what to do.

I got hit on today.  You know how sometimes a guy is really nice to you and you think, "Well he could be hitting on me, or he could just be really nice?"  Well this was not that kind of situation.  He worked at the store I was shopping in and he was clearly nervous and sweaty and stuttering.  He talked about my hair and how pretty and curly and pretty and curly and pretty and curly it was.  He repeated himself a lot.  After a few minutes of his rambling, I started to wonder what the heck was going on and I looked down and remembered that I had taken off my wedding ring last night and forgot to put it back on this morning.  Then it all made sense, because it was clearly all this guy could do to work up the nerve to talk to a single girl, much less a married girl.  When he finally got to "Well maybe sometime if you wanted to maybe sometime we could..."  I just interrupted him with "Ok, I'll let you know if I need any help!" gave him a kind smile and called Mom so I could be occupied with my cell phone for the rest of the shopping trip.

Icing my foot

Dolly is concerned. Not about my foot, but about how she will get to the ice in the bag.

Ouch

I hurt my foot today.  I was just walking along, got too close to a metal shelving unit and my left foot went under it.  So when I lifted my foot up to take another step, it got caught under the shelf and I tripped and it hurt and I cried.  At work.  While chanting "don'tcrydon'tcrydon'tcry."  Chanting is overrated.

It immediately bruised and swelled up into a big ugly lump and now my foot is swollen and blue and ugly and it hurts to wear shoes.  And also, to stand, sit, breath, and eat dinner.  I have the day off tomorrow, so I can wear flip flops all day - the sandal straps nicely avoid the big ugly bump and will still allow people to see it so I can get some sympathy.

Game

Chad and I are at the Royal's Game tonight. This morning I thought I had to go to the game, so I mentally prepared myself. Then I found out that Chad was taking someone else and I didn't have to go, so I mentally prepared myself for staying home. Then I found out that "someone else" (I'm looking at you, Tim) wasn't going, so I had to go. But by then it was too late to mentally prepare for anything else, so here I sit, unprepared.

Saturday we went to a friend from high school's wedding. In this situation, friend=ex-boyfriend. He grew up Baptist like most of our class did, but he married a Catholic girl. So for the entire ceremony, the left side of the church did the sign of the cross and murmured at all the correct times, while the right side of the church stood there looking at each other going "Huh? What are we doing?"

I'll be honest, it is not a cool night. I would guess it is around 300 degrees. I put some sunscreen on before leaving home, but I am still hot. It is almost like sunscreen's job is not to keep you cool.

It is only the bottom of the 2nd inning. I can see this post getting pretty long and rambly, so I better wrap it up.

Burrito

I ate this burrito tonight at the game. It was better than Chipotle because it had olives on it, but it was worse than Chipotle because it did not taste like Chipotle.

How do you feel about the name given to you at birth?

I love my name.

I love that it is a family name - I am at least the 3rd to have it, maybe 4th or 5th?  Mom, can you clarify?

I love that I get two names - Kathryn and Katie.  I know that some people don't get nicknames and they probably don't care, but I love having two names.  As hard as it would be to choose a child's name, I can guarantee it will have two - full and nick.

However, I don't feel much connection to my middle name.  I don't have anything against it, but I honestly have to think about it when someone asks what it is.  I think that might be because I consider Kathryn and Katie my names, so while Jennifer is technically my middle name, it is number three on the list, so I just don't think about it much.

The name Katie lends itself to many nicknames, songs, etc.  KT.  Katie-bug.  Katie-did-it.  K, K, K, Katie.

So, to sum up:  I love my name.  It is the best name.

Someone walked in with their dog first thing this morning.  No calling ahead, no appointment - just walked in.  His reason?  The dog was "fussy."  "My dog has been fussy all night!"  Seriously?

A lady came in to buy flea protection this afternoon.  Her eyebrows were drawn on.  They were blue.  I understand the some people fill in their eyebrows if they are thin, or losing hair or something, but no one has blue eyebrows.  It is never ok to use blue when drawing eyebrows.

I asked a woman to fill out a new patient form for a cat we had never seen before.  The only information she was able to give me was that the cat was black.  No name, no date of birth, male or female, long or short hair, what kind of food he eats, etc etc.  She has owned the cat for 10 years.  According to her, it is her husband's cat, so she isn't responsible for knowing anything about it.  Like his name.

Do you think it's ever permissible to cheat?

It is 11:02pm.  I have less than an hour to get my post in for today.  It is an hour past the time I would normally be asleep.  It is June 24th, I can't believe I am so close to the end of this posting every day thing.

Do you think it's ever permissible to cheat?

Nope.

I think my posts are getting shorter.  I will try to improve the quality of the posts as when I am less tired.

Day Off

Why are my days off always busier than if I was at work?

Today I went to:
the chiropractor (another new receptionist!)
the mall (and bought a fantastic new dress)
BD's for lunch with mom
Penny's (and worked there for a few hours)
Beauty Brands
Bag & Baggage (don't go, you won't like the backpack as much as you thought you would)
Chipotle
Swimwear Solutions (don't go, you'll just feel bad about yourself)
Target

I got a lot accomplished and spent a lot of money.

What was the worst job you ever had?

One summer during college I was a waitress at Jose Pepper's Mexican restaurant.  They have amazing chips & salsa.

I hated it.  I am just not a nice enough person to wait tables.  There are too many stupid people who eat out and it was hard for me to deal with them.

Plus, my manager was a complete and total word that I don't use on my blog.  For real, he was unbelievably awful.

So that ruined restaurant work for me forever.  Not that I think I would be waiting tables now even if I had enjoyed that job, but now it is definitely at the bottom of the job barrel for me.

Uh oh, there was no blog prompt for today.  This means you get whatever randomness comes out of my mind.

Just go ahead and stop reading now.

I held a meeting at work today for my kennel staff.  Every other area of the hospital manages their schedules without me holding their hands, why can't the kennel people do the same?  It drives me crazy when they constantly come to me, complaining about so-and-so not signing up and so-and-so never works, blahblahblah!  It makes me want to scream.  So I told them that the schedule will be filled out a month in advance and if it isn't then I will fill it out a month in advance and they will be working when I schedule them.

Chad is watching the World Cup.  The buzzing sound is driving me crazy.  I might go mow the yard.  Then again, talk about a buzzing sound...mowing the yard is like an insanely loud buzzing sound!

My status is the Ecuador wedding has possible changed from "Godparent" to "Bridesmaid."  Or "Bridesmade" as Josh says.  Not sure if that is just the manly way of saying it, or the Ecuadorian way of saying it.  Either way, I am glad because I won't have to pick out my own dress.

What's the one food you feel like you couldn't live without?

Strawberries.  Rumor has it they were my favorite as a baby and I still enjoy them now.  Especially in pie form.  And shortcake form.  And fresh out of the garden form.

And also, Chipotle.

What's the one food you'd rather die than put in your mouth?

Green beans.  Rumor has it that I have hated them from the get go - they were the one food I was allowed to refuse to eat.  Because they are disgusting.

And also, oysters.  I don't believe anyone actually eats those.

What's your greatest fear?

The people that I love dying.  I think I have an unhealthy fear of it.  I can't imagine anything worse.  Please God, take me before you take anyone I love, because there is no way I will be able to handle it.

This was too depressing, so let's do another.

If you could take a train journey through any part of the world, where would you go?

I'll be honest, I don't love trains.  One time I took the train from KC to St. Charles to see Chad while he was there for a summer job.  It was horrible.

But, if I had to say...I guess I would say Ireland.  Beautiful country.  Very green.  I guess I will never know for sure because I would never ever survive the plane trip there.

Concerts, continued

First, an amendment to my last post about concerts.  I totally forgot about going to see The Blanks (Ted's band from the TV show Scrubs) last year!  It was by far the funniest concert I have ever been to, and before last night, it was also the weirdest.

Speaking of weirdest...

Last night was the Edward Sharpe concert.  It was at the Beaumont Club in Westport, which was a new venue for me.

Observations:
Edward Sharpe is crazy weird.
I will never again doubt that I know what pot smells like.
I might have gotten a little high from all the second-hand pot smoke.
Edward Sharpe has a turban made out of his own hair.
Edward Sharpe took off his shirt 2 songs into the concert.
We waited 50 minutes between the opening band and Edward Sharpe.
Probably because Edward Sharpe was busy smoking pot.

Conclusions:
Pot + Edward Sharpe = way weird night.  However, I am listening to an Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's song right now, so...maybe they converted me?

Tell us about your first kiss

Ahh, Dave L.

I don't remember how old we were, maybe like 7th Grade.  We were "going out."  Stephanie picked me up, Derek picked Dave up and they smooshed us together.  It was horrible and I vowed there would be no more kissing in my life.

Sorry Chad.

What are the 5 best bands you've seen play live?

I am going to change this to best concerts instead of bands.

See if you can find the common link between all 5 concerts.

In no particular order:

1. The Ting Tings - We saw them at The Record Bar in Westport.  Itty bitty venue which made for a totally awesome show.  That's not my name!  The only think that could have made it better was if we could understand anything they were saying.  They were pretty English.  The only thing I understood was something about being "knockered up" which I'm pretty sure they were.

2. Sugar Ray/Uncle Kracker- this was at the MO county fair when we were in college.  Sugar Ray and Uncle Kracker were opening for The Goo Goo Dolls.  I am not kidding when I say Mark McGrath, aka The Hottest Man on the Face of the Planet Next to Ryan Reynolds, walked out into the crowd and was within arms distance.  Nikki (college roomate) and I almost died.  Chad was not impressed.  And Sugar Ray had a bartender on stage behind them.  It was awesome.  You know who was not awesome?  The Goo Goo Dolls - you could tell they were unhappy to be there and their show was lame.

3. Matchbox 20/Fountains of Wayne - Also while we were in college.  This was at SMSU in Springfield.  I came up from Branson and Chad and some friends came over from Rolla.  Remember the song "Stacy's Mom?"  That was Fountains of Wayne.  And Matchbox 20 has some of the best songs ever - at one point they rolled a grand piano out onto the stage for Rob Thomas to play.  Very awesome.

4.  Sister Hazel - We went to see Sister Hazel at the Wichita Zoo a few years ago.  It was so awesome.  I bought a t-shirt and 2 of the band members signed the sleeves.  And we found out that hardcore Sister Hazel fans are called "Hazel Nuts" which still makes me laugh every time I think about it.  However, we didn't get the memo about bringing our own lawn chairs, so we were the only 2 standing the entire night.  But it was totally worth it.  There is nothing cooler than being at a great concert and having a peacock walk by and hearing lions roar in the background.

Side Note:  Sister Hazel sings my top 3 favorite songs of all time.  Change Your Mind, All For You and This Kind of Love.  Sure, there are other new ones that I like for a while, but those 3 have remained my favorite for many years.

5.  My BFF, Brad Paisley.  Oh my.  If you don't know the whole story of this concert, you can read it here.  It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life.  Darla and I still talk about it all the time.  Everyone we know is sick of hearing about it.  And who am I kidding when I say this was in no particular order - this is far and away #1.

Did you guess the common link?  They were all awesome.

We are going to see Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros on Wednesday.  I doubt they will push anyone out the top 5, but we'll see.

Whoa, cutting it kind of close tonight!

Chad and I just got home from a wedding of a friend from high school.  There was another friend from high school there that I hadn't talked to in a long time and we got to catch up - it was very nice.  Makes me wonder why I don't make more of an effort to stay in touch with people?

A Bad Day

Today, I am home sick.  I have thrown up.  More than once.  I hate throwing up.

I am grateful that it is not a bad headache that is making me sick, but I would still rather not be throwing up.

I don't know what it is that is making me sick.  Maybe something I ate?  I don't think so.  I am already better than I was this morning, but my stomach is sore.

Today's writing prompt is: If you could go back in time and meet your 16-year-old self, what three things would you tell yourself?

1.  Stop thinking that you are fat, you only weigh 95 pounds!

2.  You have no idea what stress is.  Just wait.

3.  You know Chad?  That annoying guy in Bio class?  Haha, just wait.

A Good Day

Today was very productive.  I went to work for several hours, took a cat to live at Petsmart and hopefully be adopted, went to Penny's for a few hours, and bought wedding presents for the 500 weddings we will be attending this summer.   Yes, 500.  Or 4.

I am excited to have this Saturday off.  The first wedding of the summer is at 4pm, which means I can sleep in till at least 2pm.

There is no way I can keep this up for an entire month. For real.

I am looking forward to having tomorrow afternoon off. Part of me wants to verify that I will actually have the afternoon off, but from past experience I realize that when she says "Yes, I will be there," that actually means, "I might be there, but probably not. So for now, I will just look forward to having the afternoon off.

Shall I start a countdown until vacation? 56 days.

Summer Vacation

Today I would like to talk to you about my summer vacation. Chad and I are going to Ecuador in August. For 12 days. I am very excited.

We will be flying from KC to Dallas to Miami to Quito to Loja to Quito to the Galapagos Islands to Quito to Miami to Dallas to KC. (Is that right, Josh?) I don't like flying, so I'm trying not to think about that part too much.

I am mainly focusing on not being at work for 12 whole days. I am beyond excited for that part.

Live from the Royal's Game

Chad and I are at the game. Row H, seats 2 and 3. Chad says to tell you there is a Pitcher's Duel. Jesus, aka Johnny Damon, is batting. Chad say he throws like a girl. Inning: top of the 4th. Dinner before the game at 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. There were too many sesame seeds on my hamburger bun. So far, everything I have typed has been on one line, do you think it will be that way when I post it?

Weather is not too bad. We are in the shade.

I am worried about the babies, home alone in the bathtub. What if they starve to death before I get home? They probably won't, because they ate at 4:30, and they have been going for 5 hours between feedings, but I am still worried, I have never left them home alone before.

I have gotten a pretty good response to my blogging return - I wasn't sure that anyone was still reading. I have hopes that if I keep the daily blogs short and sweet, I can pull off doing it everyday for the month. We'll see.

4 days...

Oh my goodness, I am so sick of blogging.

I am glad it is the weekend. I work tomorrow morning and we are going to the Royal's game tomorrow night. Chad is at a game night tonight, and I am supposed to be mowing the yard. It is still 95 degrees though, so hopefully it cools off soon.

Who watches the TV show "Rules of Engagement?" Jeff is my favorite character of all time.

Poetry

I think my favorite poems are by Ogden Nash. I have never been a big fan of poetry, but his are short, too the point and funny. I wanted to put this one on our Wedding Program, but someone said No. Sometimes I think that someone could take this advice!

A Word to Husbands
To keep your marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you're wrong, admit it;
Whenever you're right, shut up.

I Feel Angry

I don't understand some people. A lot of people actually, but especially some. Some that I work with.

What would happen if every person who worked there acted the way they did? The place couldn't function! Someone has to care enough to be there when they are scheduled and keep the place running. Sometimes it is hard to be that person.

So I am in for another very long week of working too much overtime and then getting in trouble for working so much overtime because he doesn't want to pay me that much overtime.

National Blog Posting Month

Think I can post everyday in June?

Me neither.

But I can try! We have some prompts over here, so that might help when I have nothing else to talk about.

There are 2 baby kittens that came into the animal shelter a week ago. They require feeding every 3-4 hours, so Darla and I have been taking them home every night. They are pretty cute. We named them Bill and Ted. But then Ted turned out to be a girl so I renamed her Chandler and renamed Bill, Frank Jr. Jr. If you don't get it then you probably shouldn't be reading my blog. Except John, Tim and Josh, I don't expect you guys to get it.

I will try to get a photo of them up soon. Right now they are asleep in my bathtub.

Whew, 1 day down, 29 to go!
