2nd Post!

Well the surgery went fine. The surgeon found 3 hernias instead of 2 like we thought, so she is going to spend the night for sure and then see how she feels tomorrow. She is doing fine, has some pain, but nothing unexpected.

How am I doing?

Well, what do you guys think about my New Year's resolution to blog more? I would say unsuccessful.

But you get a good post today! I am hanging out at NKC Hospital for the day while mom has hernia surgery.

This has been my day so far:
I got here at 7am. I was aiming for 6:30, oops.
Sat with mom till they took her back for surgery.
Cried a little.
Gave myself a lecture (crying really isn't necessary, it is minor surgery and she will be fine.)
Went to the cafe for a cherry turnover and a coke.
Came back up to the waiting room and got pastry flakes all over the floor around my chair.
Moved chairs so no one would know that I was the one who left food on the floor.
Moved back cause it was still the best seat in the room.
Send approximately 58 emails to Mandy, the only other person I know who is awake and online at this hour.
Kept an eye on the questionably homeless man in the waiting room.
Cried a little, cause homeless people make me sad.
Realized I was really crying cause I am worried about mom.
Started this blog post.

It is now 8:09. That's right, I did all that in one hour. It is going to be a long day.

It is possible that mom will get to go home today, but she might choose to spend the night, depending on how she feels. She has walked a minimum of 4 miles every single day for over 1,000 days (sorry mom, can't find the email with the exact number - leave it in the comments!) and has been putting this surgery off for over year, just because she didn't want to break the streak. She walked this morning before she came to the hospital, and I am confident she will find a way to walk tomorrow too. But if she doesn't, it is no big deal. We are super proud of her no matter what - no one is going to care if she misses a few days because she had surgery.

I have been watching for dad to get here. If his expected arrival time was 8:30, I would actually expect him at 8:15. So at 8:20 I thought, "Hmmm, why isn't dad here yet?" I shifted around in my chair and saw him sitting behind me. He said he had been here 10 minutes, saw a girl on her laptop and blackberry and thought "Man, can't people go for 10 seconds without technology!?" Then he saw it was me.

A cousin who works here just came out to say Hi to us. We know a few people who work here, it is nice to have some familiar faces around.

Well, I guess that is enough for now. I will update later and let you know how the surgery went.
